First conviction in GST. 5 years rigorous imprisonment for GST evasion.

This first case of conviction in the country for GST evasion will discourage tax evaders. The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Haridwar completed the trial in 8 months and sentenced the guilty to 5 Year rigorous imprisonment.

First conviction in GST evasion: The efforts of the State Tax Department towards curbing tax evasion and increasing tax collection seem to be paying off. Due to tireless efforts of the officials of the State Tax Department, the operator of the firm arrested in the case of fraudulent ITC claim of Rs 17.01 crore has been sentenced to 5 years rigorous imprisonment.

GST evasion convict sentenced after completing trial in 8 months

In this case, from the state tax department to the advocate and the court, there was a speed at every level.

GST officers along with the counsel Lakshya Singh did a strong representation. Because of which the trial was completed in eight months and Chief Judicial Magistrate Haridwar Mukesh Chandra Arya sentenced the convict to 5 Years rigorous imprisonment. Along with this, a fine of Rs. 1,00,000 was also imposed on Surendra Singh. In case of non-payment of fine, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment of 6 months.

"The machinery of the State Tax Department is working seriously to stop bogus ITC claims. The results of which are now coming to the fore. This first case of punishment in the country for GST evasion will discourage tax evaders."
